Volvo P1800S -1965 *restored*
Introduced in 1961 the Volvo P1800 was a stylish 2+2 sports coupe that combined sporty, elegant, Italian design with solid reliable Swedish technology. Design came from Petterson, who at the time worked for the Italian design studio Frua which was part of the in the days, prestigious carrozzeria Ghia. Interestingly, the P1800 was that was marketed by Volvo as a smart alternative for exclusive cars like the Ferrari 250 GT, Facel Vega HK500, Maserati 3500GT, and Aston Martin DB5. With equivalent style but fuel economic and without the exotic money devouring technique.
Fitted with a variant of Volvo's reliable and bullit proof four cilinder B18 engine. This B18B had higher compression, different 5 bearings camshaft, and with double SU carburettors which delivered finally a respectfull 118 hp. Together with the M41 gearbox with optional electrical overdrive from Laycock de Normanville, which decreased revs and gasoline use at high speeds. Tops speed depending on the version could reach 193 km/h.
