Land Rover Series 2a -88- 1962 *Restored*
We are proud to offer this desirable Land Rover Series IIa. Originally delivered by Importer Sieberg in The Hague Holland. With with British heritage certificat. Body off restored while retaining originality and now in concours condition. Also in our most favorite version: the short wheel base, cab style pickup Land Rover with linen cover. A true British icon known for adventurers on the African continent, but also visible in the rural outdoors.
The Land Rover Series II was introduced in 1958 and was a much improved version of the original first series. In 1961, the Series IIa was further improved with, among other things, improved and stronger engines. The improved series IIa with the headlights in the grille is the most sought after, with it’s true cult status and because of it’s indestructibility and usability as a classic.
This very early Series 2a has undergone extensive restoration to original specifications, and has driven almost 500 km since then. The Land Rover has been professionally body off restored. In this extensive process, the chassis, body and every nut have been loosened and everything has been rebuilt. The chassis is sandblasted and repainted. The 2.3 liter diesel engine has been completely overhauled and offers the familiar feeling of an old skool self-igniter. The complete drivetrain, transmission, differential axles and the braking system have also been overhauled, and a new cable harness has been fitted. Every effort has been made to preserve as faithfully as possible the spartan and bold character of this pre-Defender Land Rover. Likewise, all original galvanized parts have been re-galvanized. The body is exceptionally sleek for a Land Rover of this age, while the original spot welds from the factory are still visible, exceptional! Repainted in its original color scheme: "Marine Blue" with "Limestone".
On the inside, the interior is largely original with a row of three luxury seats and thick mats on the floor. The only extra in the interior is the "Smith" heater, an expensive option at the time that provides the owner with the necessary heat in the cabin. The rear is empty except for the spare wheel, there is room to mount benches that can accommodate four extra passengers.
On the outside, the Land Rover has many nice original features such as: fender-mounted chrome mirrors, rear grab handles and a Capstan winch. A tow bar is provided to allow towing. The optional freewheel hubs are available and make this four wheel drive, together with switchable four-wheel drive and high and low gearing, ideal for on the road as well as for off-road use.
To complete the picture, we have fitted 5 new Michelin 750 16 ZXL tires, New Old stock Lucas headlights with decorative rings and an Exmoor hood from England to finish the real car. All these things make this classic Land Rover a complete, and in its full glory restored, top example in concours condition !!
Including: original jack, spare wheel, Capstan winch and instruction booklet.
This unique Land Rover offers a truly classic driving experience and is a pleasure to drive. This beautiful piece of British heritage is also a responsible investment for the future - and plenty of opportunities to take your friends with you wherever your adventure goes!
