Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Lowlight -1959 *restored*
This Karmann Ghia is of the first model series: type "low-light" with the low-mounted headlights, gently sloping front wings, small rear lights, it differs from the later Karmann Ghia's and follows the original Ghia design. These were hand-built at Karmann, a time-consuming process in which hand-formed panels were welded into one body.
This Karmann Ghia was restored 3 years ago by an enthusiast / mechanic. The car comes from Louisiana (USA) where it was driven until 1985 by the last American owner Mr. Robert L Billeaud. The car was then stored in a shed, after which the car was imported to the Netherlands in 2013.
The basis for the restoration was a virtually rust-free example, underside and bodywork needed little or no welding. During the restoration, the body was sanded bare and then tightened and sprayed in the original color red. The engine, gearbox and brakes have been completely overhauled. Choosen is for a 12V conversion and a 1500 motor for more power and ease of use. All rubbers have been replaced and a new wiring harness has been fitted. The interior has new seat upholstery, door upholstery, carpets and headliner (original color scheme). The dashboard is very neat, the original steering wheel has been repainted, all gauges and instruments have been checked and are working. a new wiring harness has also been installed. The chrome is new where necessary and shines beautifully.
As may be expected, the Karmann Ghia is technically in a very good condition. It drives, shifts and brakes well and with the 1500 engine, this Lowlight is also nice and smooth in traffic.
The car comes with a restoration documentation, the original American registration and State of Louisiana number plate.
